One Click. One World. Infinite Possibilities.
The Blackstone-Millville Regional School District is proud to be an active participant in the Virtual High School Program. A virtual class takes place entirely over the Internet; the virtual classroom can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our students are enrolled with The VHS Collaborative which is the worldwide leader in collaborative online education and is comprised of over 675 member schools from 33 states and 34 countries. All courses are monitored regularly and adhere to the National Education Association’s guidelines for high quality in online courses. VHS has been granted national accreditation by the Northwest Accreditation Commission.
VHS is a student-centered offering and an engaging enrichment program that addresses critical educational needs. Students will have access to classes not offered at BMR and HMS. Placement will be based on an application, a written statement, an academic review and permission of the Guidance Director as well as the building Principal.
By participating in a VHS class, students will:
• gain skills that are essential for the 21st century such as multimedia presentation skills, online collaboration and communication, assessment of online resources and online team building skills;
• collaborate with students from other states and countries in a virtual classroom learning environment that instills a global perspective; and
• participate in challenging and engaging courses that stimulate students’ creativity and challenge students’ intellectual capacity.
At The VHS Collaborative, the co-synchronous e-learning model reinforces the full range of 21st century skills today’s students need to succeed. In every VHS course students use wikis, blogs, and other tools in their daily academic work. They discuss, debate, analyze, and create with classmates through group projects and assignments in a global classroom.
VHS classes are offered in a scheduled asynchronous mode. That means that classes follow a semester schedule and assignments are due at specified weekly intervals. However, students can complete their work at anytime during the week, as long as work is posted by specified due dates.
The VHS Collaborative offers over 200 full semester courses in Arts, Business, English Language Arts, Foreign Language, Life Skills, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Technology. In addition, VHS offers full year Advanced Placement (AP)* courses.
*VHS courses using the AP designation have been approved by the College Board's AP Audit.
