Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be blind? If so,
you should read Mirror,
Mirror on the Wall.
It’s the diary of Bess Brennan, a girl who becomes blind, and has to go to a
special school. Barry Denenberg, the author of this
story, makes it quite unique by having Elin, Bess’s
twin sister write what it’s like for her, in the same diary! Perkins is a great
school for Bess to make new friends that are just like her. She learns how to
read and write Braille, people who are blind are called, ‘’Blinks’’, and that
she has to count the number of steps taken from her from one place to another.
I love this book because it teaches you that being blind is really tough, but it’s not the end of the World. The
characters in this book are all so unpredictable, such as a shy girl named Eva
stealing a teacher’s dentures. I could feel the tears squirming into my eyes
when Elin went into a crying fit because she wants
her and Bess to stay exactly the same! This is a great book for all audiences.
It is serious at some places, and full of comedy the next. This is one of my
all time favorite stories, and it will surely become one of yours!
