Rowan of Rin

Do you like a good quest?  Do you like adventure, and unpredictable endings?  Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda has both. The book is about a herder, who finds himself on a dangerous quest to free the stream that brings life to the village of Rin, and the herd.  He knows he is only going because, Sheba, the wise woman throws a map of the mountain at him, in the form of a stick.  And if anyone holds the map but him, it becomes but a slip of paper. So Rowan and six so-called-brave companions set out. At the top of the mountain lives a dragon. When they meet her, she has not eaten for many days. What do you think happens?

This book will be of interest to someone who likes a little magic, solving puzzles, or someone who likes it when the underdog wins.  I recommend this book for third, through fifth grade, though it is only 151 pages long, it is one of the best books around.
