Artistic Work for
Kids!

Have you ever wanted to express yourself?  Maybe you like painting, photography, or maybe poetry?

Have you ever written poetry?  You know poetry has been around for thousands of years!  It started with the Japanese when they made their Haikus. A haiku is a poem about nature that has 5 syllables, 7 syllables, and then 5 again.  For example:

Winter blankets leave

The blossoms bloom and are born

Springtime brings much joy

Many years later in Britain repetitions were made.  A repetition is a poem that always has a repeating one, or two lines.  This is one I created:

This piece of fruit, I bit into,

It was sweet and delicious.

I took a bite and found much joy

It was sweet and delicious.

Were you going to have this fruit?

It was sweet and delicious.

I am sorry I ate this fruit.

It was sweet and delicious.

Many famous repetitions such as Raven, and Black Cat were made by Edgar Allen Poe.

I believe the most common and popular poems are Quatrains, or poems that rhyme in A, B, form, observe:

I simply love to pretend

I can make castles, or a pretend friend.

I can create anything I desire.

I love to pretend, I will never tire.
