There are a lot of types of poems in the world. One type of poem is haiku. The first line of a haiku has 5 syllables. The second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. Haiku’s are always about nature.

Example: The sun is shining

Birds are singing so loudly

Swooping for their pray

Another type of poem is a couplet. A couplet is a two lined rhyming poem. The lines do not have to be a curtain number of syllables. They can be about anything.

Example: Everyone knows the Muffin Man,

He drives a very old blue and white van.

Last but not least are the acrostic poems. You have to list phrases vertically and describe the key word. The first letter of each word spell the key word.

Example: Digs our lawn

Our favorite pet

Gets very dirty
