Erica's Poetry Page

Welcome to my poetry page. Here you will learn all about different kinds of poetry.  Like diamantes, haikus, and many more.  Now you have a great opportunity to learn all about poetry.  Now come with me into the world of poetry and learn, read examples, and see wonderful pictures!

The first poem I will tell you about is a diamante.  A diamante is when you put a noun on the first line.  On the second line you put adjectives describing the noun you put on the first line.  On the third line you put three ing verbs.  Then on the 4th you put a four word phrase.  On the fifth line you will put three more ing verbs describing another noun witch you will put on the eighth line (I will tell you about it later).  On the seventh line you will put two adjectives describing the noun that you will put on the 8th line.  Here is my example.

                                                    Teachers

                                Nice, fun

                            Teaching, watching, playing

                         Teaching children everyday smiling.

                           Learning, playing, talking

                          Kind, friendly

                       Children

The next poem I will tell you about is an

acrostic.  On this poem you will write a noun on the edge of a paper, a screen, or anything that you would like to write it on.  Then you will write anything that you would like to fit each letter.  You can put a little phrase or just one word.  Here is my example.

Friend is a person who is

                                                     Respectful

                                                                       Intelligent

                                                     Encouraging

                                                                       Nice and

                                                                       Different from you.

The next and last poem is a haiku.  This type of poem is on nature.  On the 1st line there are 5 syllables.  On the 2nd line there are 7 syllables.  On the 3rd line there are 5 syllables once again.  Here is my example.

                                           Thunder

                                           It rumbles and roars

It shakes the sky and the ground

                                   It is scares me too.
