(National
Make-A-Difference Day - October 26, 2002)
On National
Make-A-Difference Day members of the Blackstone-Millville Chapter
of the National Honor Society were working on various projects in
local communities. At the Blackstone Nursing Home, members conducted
a Sing-A-Long with the patients there. Lindsay Karloff, Stephanie
LePage, Andrew Abbondanza, Mitch Foley, Brian Pouliot, Stephanie
Bibbo, Tanya Breault, and advisor Mark Campopiano sang. The society
donated baked goods to the Nursing Home as well.
NHS members
were "making a difference" at the towns' libraries as
well. A story time was held for resident preschoolers at the Millville
Library. The hour consisted of Halloween crafts and spooky stories
read by the students. National Honor Society members there included
Kevin Randall, Karloff, Foley, Pouliot, Jennifer Rheaume, Bibbo,
and Breault. At the Blackstone and Millville Libraries the group
also donated several hard covered children's books.
Finally,
the group became Santa's helpers for Leo Defond, better known in
this area as "Santa." Each year Defond enlists the help
of area organizations to wrap hundreds of new and used gifts to
be distributed throughout the area and to state prisons and nursing
homes. Located above Warehouse Liquors on North Main Street, he
had the help of Brent Gilbert, Kristin Stefanik, Stefanie Rouselle,
Sarah Spuleki, Wesley Nault, Tanya Cotnoir, Matt Kankash, Jared
Ganis, Steven Lindstrom, Foley, Pouliot, Jesse and Jennie Rivet,
and Campopiano .
When the
day was done, the group agreed that they had certainly "made-a-difference"
for many others in their communities.
