The National
Honor Society works very hard at maintaining an extremely active chapter
and welcomes members who are ready and willing to maintain the highest
standards expected of students at the Blackstone-Millville Regional High
School. Your membership is important, but you are required to follow through
on all aspects of NHS including leadership, service, scholarship, and
character.
If you are truly interested
in being a member of the National Honor Society, please read the following
guidelines and consider each of them carefully before making your final
decision.
Leadership -
The student who exercises leadership:
- is resourceful
in proposing new solutions to problems and making suggestions
- demonstrates
initiative in promoting school activities
- exercises
influence on peers in upholding school activities
- exemplifies
positive attitudes
- inspires
positive behavior in others
- demonstrates
academic initiative
- is a forerunner
in the classroom, at work, and in school or community affairs
- is thoroughly
dependable in any responsibility accepted
Service - The student who serves:
- participates
in some outside activity for the community: food pantry (mandatory
service), soup kitchen, working with senior citizens, volunteering
in hospitals, etc. (service hrs. are documented)
- participates
in 18 hrs. of community service during the school year and 10 hrs.
during summer vacation
- participates
in at least two group service projects throughout the year
- volunteers dependable
and well-organized assistance, is gladly available, and is willing
to sacrifice to offer assistance
- works well with
others and is willing to take on difficult and inconspicuous responsibilities
- will give up
study periods during school time to tutor other students
- attends all NHS
weekly morning meetings and becomes an active participant
- joins sub-committees
and attends scheduled additional morning meetings to plan activities
- assists visitors,
teachers/administrators, and peers cheerfully and enthusiastically
Character - The student of character:
- takes criticism
willingly and accepts recommendations graciously
- consistently
exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior
- upholds principles
of morality and ethics
- is not pressured
by peers to engage in inappropriate conduct or behavior in school
or out
- demonstrates
the highest standards of honesty and reliability
- shows courtesy,
concern, and respect for others
- actively helps
rid the school of bad influences or environment
- is willing to
be looked upon as a role-model for all others
