STATE  COLLEGE  ADMISSIONS  UPDATE

The minimum admission requirements for the Massachusetts State College and Universities have changed again for the Fall Entrance 2001. Initially, the minimum GPA was 2.7, raised to 2.9 for fall 2000 and will be raised to 3.0 for fall 2001. If the student's GPA falls below this standard, they must have SAT scores that meet the requirement of balancing off the lower GPA.

The requirements, in terms of course selections remain the same; however, it is to be noted that the state colleges will only use weighted college prep classes in their calculations of the GPA.

The course requirements include 4 English, 3 Math, 3 Science, 2 Foreign Language, 2 Social Sciences and 2 courses from the required core, Arts and Humanities or Computer Science.

SAT scores are required and are used in the sliding scale to offset a lower GPA than what is considered acceptable.

Some of the State Colleges offer summer remedial courses for students who are deficient in an area. They offer enrollment in science or foreign language courses if a student is missing that required course on their transcript.

Worcester State offers a program via Quinsigamond Community College where the student is enrolled at Quinsigamond but participates in all Worcester State Campus activities and takes their classes at Worcester State through Quinsigamond Professors. This service is offered at other State Colleges and Universities. If anyone qualifies for this service, contact the college you are interested in attending.
