FINANCIAL AID - WHERE DOES IT ALL BEGIN?

If applying to private colleges/universities as well as public, it starts with….

This registration is a necessary step if you wish to receive institutional(private college/university) aid as well as federal aid.

Otherwise, (if applying to public only) it starts with…

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
These forms will be available in the guidance office and may be filed after January 2, 2001.
 • The FAFSA is required to apply for federal aid and is used to determine federal eligibility.
 • Approximately 4 weeks after filing, the student will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) that will provide a federal eligibility index.

WHERE THERE'S 'THE WEB,' THERE'S A WAY…
 • Electronic application www.fafsa.ed.gov
 • Available January 2, 2001
 • Once a student has filed the FAFSA, they will receive a PIN# (available for paper or online filing)
With this PIN#, the student may…
1. Change and correct data on the SAR and check progress of financial aid
2. Supply your e-mail address and receive direct information about your aid
3. PIN# serves as the student's electronic signature'
