“BMR Girls Track Stars Shine at Boston Meet”
Leanne Curley places first in high jump event

BLACKSTONE…BMR girls track members returned from the Reggie Lewis Track Center’s statewide meet with solid bragging rights according to Marisa Olivo BMR girls track coach and faculty member. “Leanne Curley, a sophomore at BMR took first place in the high jump earning her the ‘Most Outstanding Field Event Performance’ award” said Olivo. “Another girls’ track team member, Alyssa Eisner placed seventh in the 55 meter dash event. We congratulate her on a very respectable showing especially in light of the competition. Both girls and in fact the entire team represented Blackstone and Millville well at these two prestigious track meets” Olivo said.

The BMR girls track team, lead by first-year coach Marisa Olivo, were among the statewide participants from public and private schools at the recent Mass. State Track Coaches Association’s Invitational and the organization’s Elite Meet, the kickoff event for the final stretch of indoor high school track and field for the 2006-2007 season.

Curley, daughter of Kevin and Eleanor Curley of Millville was understandably pleased with her performance. “Saturday was my sixteenth birthday and before starting the coach told me to set a ‘personal goal’ for the meet. I guess it turned out to be my day” Curley said. “It was surprising for me to realize the level of competition that we were up against, but training and focus paid off” Curley added. There were 81 competitors that she squared off against. In addition to indoor track, and outdoor track, Curley is also sophomore class president and a member of the BMR Chorus.

Eisner, also a sophomore class member, is the daughter of Robert and Judy Eisner of Blackstone. She too is a member of the indoor and outdoor track teams and plays soccer.

Other team members who attended the meet were fellow sophomore Alexis Mowry and freshman Tiffany Armas.
