“BMR’s Varsity B-Ball Coach Recognized
By Peers With Sportsmanship Award”

BLACKSTONE…Ethan Roe, BMR’s boys varsity basketball coach received the first “Frabotta-Sayles Sportsmanship for Boys Basketball Program Award” during a dinner meeting sponsored by Board 208 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials at the Marchegiano Club in Milford. The award, named in honor of local long-time basketball officials John “Chili” Frabotta and Albert “Chick” Sayles recognizes the fostering of sportsmanship within the framework of boys high school basketball.

“I’m proud that our program was recognized” said Roe, now in his fifth year as BMR’s varsity coach and tenth year in high school boys’ basketball. “This award isn’t about me alone, it is meant to be shared by every boy on this year’s team and the other teams I have coached. The way the players conduct themselves on and off the court is what sportsmanship is supposed to be all about” said Roe.

“As principal of BMR high school, I can’t help but be proud of the standard of sportsmanship that our athletic program sets in virtually every sport that our students play” said Richard A. Porter. “Winning is important, but it isn’t everything. Success cannot be pursued ‘at all costs’ for many obvious and perhaps not so obvious reasons. The type of award that Coach Roe received emphasizes the concept of good sportsmanship and that in my opinion, as a former coach myself, speaks volumes about the life lessons we are attempting to convey in the classroom and on the fields and courts and rinks of athletic competition at BMR” said Porter.

South central Massachusetts communities are represented in Board 208 including Blackstone, Millville, Attleboro, Bellingham, Douglas, Foxboro, Franklin, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Mendon, Milford, Northbridge, Sutton, Upton, Uxbridge and Whitinsville.

Blackstone-Millville Regional High School was established in 1970. It consists of students from the towns of Blackstone and Millville and is located at 175 Lincoln Street in Blackstone, Massachusetts and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges.
