May 23, 2007 BMR Announces May Teacher of the Month/Student Awards BLACKSTONE…..Math Department chairperson Mary Jane Larson and junior class member Jacques Begnoche have been selected as the Teacher and Student of the Month, respectively for May at Blackstone-Millville Regional High School according to school principal Richard A. Porter. Larson, a resident of Burrillville, has taught at BMRHS for 35 years. In looking back on thousands of students who have been taught by her she noted “I have enjoyed the students very much. I love watching them progress and mature throughout their years in high school” Larson said. Her undergraduate degree is from the College of Our Lady of the Elms (Elms College) in Chicopee MA, with a BA in Math. She has a Masters of Science degree was from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester. She enjoys reading and spending time with her family. “Dedication to her profession and her students sums up Mrs. Larson’s contribution to BMR” said BMR Principal Richard A. Porter. “She has the combination of tenacity and compassion that is the hallmark of an educational professional. As a department chairperson she is a valuable resource for members of the entire faculty not only the Math Department. The BMR family is lucky to have her and this honor is well deserved” Porter said. Begnoche, 17, has played soccer for 3 years, last season as the team striker. He has excelled in track and field as well, recently rewriting BMR Athletic records in 100, 200, and 400 meter events. He is the son of Lucien and Louise Begnoche of Millville. “Jacques Begnoche has continued BMR’s legacy of winning on the athletic fields. He is a quiet student whose actions as a member of the soccer team and track team speak volumes” said Porter. “His sense of focus, training discipline and camaraderie have propelled our school to victory on the local and regional levels and built his self-confidence in the process” said Porter. Blackstone Millville Regional School Regional High School was established in 1970. It consists of students from the towns of Blackstone and Millville, is located at 175 Lincoln Street in Blackstone, Massachusetts and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. |
