Instruction focuses on concepts and abstract ideas involving world history with a heavy emphasis placed on working with cause and effect relationships. One purpose of the course is to help students develop the analytical and interpretive skills necessary to understand the interrelationships from one historical period to another. The content of the course provides a broad general survey of world history from the late Roman Empire to 1800. Major emphasis is placed on the development and spread of Western Civilization and the influence that world cultures have on attitudes and decisions of nations and on past and current events. Students need sound written and oral communication skills for this course.
