MACBETH - Creative Activities

Choose two of the following creative assignments and follow the directions. Pay close attention to any added verbal directions or changes given in class!

1.) Write a news account of the happenings at the castle when Malcolm leads the rebel forces that defeat Macbeth. Suggestion: Use photographs or sketches to go along with your news story as well as first hand accounts/ interviews. Access to a publishing program would help to enhance your news story. (otherwise - minimum length should be 1 double-spaced typed page; 12 font)

2.) Write a eulogy after Macbeth's death given by a compassionate friend who abhors Macbeth's actions yet understands his motives. Stress his admirable personality traits in your eulogy. (length: minimum 3/4 double-spaced typed page; 12 font)

3.) Compose a poem dealing with the horrors of Lady Macbeth's final mental state. Use her sleep-walking scene and class discussions as the basis for your poem. (format: 5-6 stanzas, 4-5 lines each using unrhymed iambic pentameter - in any four of the lines in the poem) To refresh your memory: in iambic meter each unstressed syllable is followed by a stressed syllable, as in the word prefer. In iambic pentameter there are five of these iambic units in each line. Remember, no rhyming at the end of the lines. Romeo used a perfect example when he said, "But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?" Have fun! Let me know if I can help.

4.) Keep a diary of either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth. You should have at least two weeks (14 days) of entries in your diary. Date each entry, and show plenty of emotion in your writing. Design an appropriate cover!
