4/8/21

Dear Parents, Guardians and the Class of 2021,

The 2020-2021 school year has been filled with unique challenges for all of us.  However, we will continue to move forward and see how the impact of COVID vaccines will allow us to plan for end-of-year events with our school community. Specifically, the Class of 2021 will be celebrating THEIR YEAR with some memorable events.  I would like to share with you our preliminary plans as we work to navigate the evolving information and guidance from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Public Health officials.

Senior Community Day and Celebration - May 3rd

Seniors will give back to their community with morning service projects at the Blackstone Boys and Girls Club.  A BBQ-style luncheon will be provided with Senior Celebration (field day) events in the afternoon. Our intended goal is to provide Seniors an opportunity to make a positive impact on their community while also engaging in team-building activities to allow them to reconnect with one another. Tellstone Bus Company will provide transportation to all seniors from campus.

Senior Formal Banquet - May 27th

Our Senior Banquet plans are contingent on specific guidelines on the number of individuals that will be allowed to attend a social gathering.  We will need to take into account our class size, guests, and adult chaperones to safely host these gatherings.  As we begin to plan our events and maximize opportunities to celebrate our students, consolidating some events may work best.  Due to current restrictions, students will not be able to utilize the dance floor.

Our Banquet is scheduled for May 27th, and we have reserved Pleasant Valley Country Club as our venue. This will be a senior-only event.  The evening event will include a dinner, yearbook distribution, and viewing of the senior slideshow.  Formal attire is recommended.

Update on Prom (DESE language): Due to DESE restrictions we will not be able to host a prom

Prom is an inherently high-risk activity, as it is a social gathering that involves dancing and singing (both of which are activities with increased respiration), and also presents concerning opportunities for students to break health and safety protocols in a relaxed environment. Therefore, after consultation with our medical advisors, DESE strongly recommends that schools do not have proms and instead substitute alternative celebrations for seniors.

Virtual Senior Awards Night - June 3rd

A presentation of our Senior Awards Night will be live-streamed for all families and students to view.

Graduation - June 4th

At this time, we are comfortable with planning our graduation outdoors on campus.  The Class of 2020 successfully celebrated their graduation using a “rolling drive-by” model, but we are looking to celebrate the Class of 2021 as we would in the past.  Due to social distancing guidelines, our senior class will be separated throughout the main entrance lot of our high school, allowing a limited number of (2) family members to be distanced in the grassy area adjacent to the parking lot.  As clearer guidelines become available, we will follow up with more details in terms of logistics and attendance restrictions.

Senior Send-Off  - June 7th or 8th

We would like to invite our seniors to an informal award’s night celebration and dinner in our courtyard.  We will have music and food/beverage for this event.  Seniors will be able to spend one last time together as a class receiving their awards and scholarships.

In Closing:

The Class of 2021 will embrace and celebrate “THEIR YEAR.”  Senior class events and our graduation ceremony provide us with an opportunity to recognize the memories, accomplishments, and post-secondary plans of our talented students.  We remain focused to do our part in making certain that we celebrate our students safely and adjust accordingly.

We will continue to communicate and share information as it develops.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we navigate our end-of-year celebration events.
